Public Service Week
Public Officers enjoying an evening out on the Istana lawn.

Public Service Week, which was celebrated from 14-21 May 2008, gives recognition to the contributions of public officers and the role they play in nation-building. One of the highlights of the week was a Public Service Observance Ceremony, where officers reaffirmed their commitment to the service by reciting the Public Service Pledge for the first time. Other activities included the presentation of the Star Service Awards, a tea reception at the Istana, a Public Service blood donation drive, Learning journeys and activities, as well as fun and games at the Civil Service Clubs.

"THE CEREMONY, ESPECIALLY THE PLEDGE, WENT A LONG WAY IN GIVING US A SENSE OF
BELONGING TO THE WINDER COMMUNITY OF OFFICERS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE."
- Dina Ibrahim, Deputy Director, A*Star
"I CAN SEE THE EFFORT THAT THE ORGANISERS PUT IN TO MAKE THE PROJECT A SUCCESS.
EVEN THOUGH THE WAY THE LEARNING JOURNEYS WERE ORGANISED CAN BE IMPROVED,
THE PROJECT WAS WELL RECEIVED. I PERSONALLY LIKE THE PUBLIC SERVICE VIDEO BEST
AS IT GIVES THAT HUMAN TOUCH."
- Jessie Phon, Senior Officer, SPRING Singapore
"IT WAS A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE, THE CHANCE TO MEET OTHER PUBLIC OFFICER AT THE
ISTANA, AND GETTING UP CLOSE TO TALK TO MINISTER TEO AND THE PRESIDENT WAS A BIG
BONUS!"
- Angalamma Marimuthu, Executive Assistant, MCYS

"OUR TEAM TOOK PART IN THE SPORTS CARNIVAL AS WE WANTED TO HAVE FUN TOGETHER
OVER THE WEEKEND. PERSONALLY, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS GREAT THAT RULES FOR THE
GAMES WERE KEPT TO THE MINIMUM. THE MESSAGE THAT I GOT WAS "HAVE FUN, FORGET
THE RULES!"
- Kong Geok Chin, Tax Investigator, IRAS
"THE PUBLIC SERVICE PLEDGE NOT ONLY RE-AFFIRMS OUT COMMIMENT TO THE PUBLIC
SERVICE BUT IT IS THE FIRST STEP IN INSTILLING A SENSE OF PRIDE IN PUBLIC OFFICERS.
IN TIME TO COME, MAYBE WE SHOULD ALSO HONOUR THE CONTRIBUTION OF DESERVING
LOCALLY-RECRUITED STAFF WHO WORK IN OUR OVERSEAS MISSIONS AFTERALL. THEY ARE
AN EXTENSION OF OUR PUBLIC SERVICE."
- Ho Cheng Heng, First Secretary (Administration and Consular),
Singapore Embassy - Germany, MFA
