Need to transact with the Government but
not sure how to go about doing it? Here is
some good news: Help is on hand. Now you
will be able to make multiple government
transactions conveniently at the single click
of the mouse!
To encourage more people to transact
online, the Ministry of Finance (MOF),
People’s Association (PA) and its grassroots
organisations recently launched a pilot
community project called “CitizenConnect” at
The Serangoon and Pasir Ris East Community
Club (CC).
This project aims to provide an easy and
convenient means for the public to transact with
the Government through the Internet.
As not every Singaporean is tech-savvy
and not every household owns a computer,
CitizenConnect offers two conveniences. First,
access to government services on the Internet is
provided. Second, there are friendly staff present
to help citizens and residents access the eCitizen
portal and perform online transactions with
government agencies.
Said Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol
Group Representative Constituency (GRC), Dr Ahmad
Mohd Magad: “Such service brings not only greater
convenience to the residents but also the physical
presence of official personnel to assist those who
are in need of transacting or searching for information
about the Government electronically. Transactions
with the Government will no longer be confined only
to those who are Internet-savvy.”

Not surprisingly, response from the public has been
good so far.
Said Madam Rosiyati, a resident staying in Pasir
Ris East: “I am very happy that I can now access
government services online at Pasir Ris East CC
where I frequent. Now I can kill ‘two birds with
one stone’.”
As for the service provided by the staff, she
only had praises: ”I am also heartened to know that
there are friendly officers to assist residents who
are not IT-savvy, like me. Even my mother-in-law
is enthusiastic about this service.”
CitizenConnect was launched as a one-year
pilot programme at The Serangoon and Pasir
Ris East CC. Three other centres will open by
the end of this year. If users find this service
useful, the Government will consider extending
it to other CCs.
Serangoon CC Management Committee
Chairman, Mr Brian Lincoln, said: “Beyond
attending courses and participating in social
activities at the CC, residents can now use
the CitizenConnect service here to access
government information and services. We are
pleased to work with the Ministry of Finance to
bring this service to our residents.”
Added Pasir Ris East CC Management
Committee Chairman,
Mr Neo Kim Her:
“ Through the
CitizenConnect
initiative, we hope
that our CC can
become a one-stop
online government
service point for
residents.” |
