A Public Service for the future
Our Public Service has evolved beyond its traditional
role as regulator, controller and service provider. We have taken
on new roles — as a facilitator and nurturer, paving the way for our
citizens and businesses to succeed.
Because we have a more responsive Public Service, we were able to
help Singapore weather many storms over the past few years, including
the economic downturn and SARS. We can do more.
We will continue to be a pace-setter and standardbearer, staying on
the forefront of management practices, technology and service provision.
By doing so, we enable, challenge and stimulate the rest of Singapore
to grow and succeed.
PS21 has no run-out date: We must never stop thinking about change
and preparing for the future. It is part and parcel of our commitment
and responsibility as
public officers.
It has been 10 years of exciting transformations. We have all grappled
with the challenges of working with new ideas and new ways of doing
things. But we now know that change can happen. We can see the difference
it makes to the Public Service, and to Singapore. We know we can do
better.
Our people and our businesses depend on a Public Service which is
determined to outdo itself, time and again, in serving them. But whatever
the future brings, we will
stand ready.
That’s the timeless message of PS21. That’s our ongoing promise to
