Service star: Stanley Conceicao

For Stanley Conceicao, it seemed like just another day at the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Personal Services Centre where he is responsible for upkeeping SAF chalets when he received an overseas call.

Mr Conceicao leant that the father of a serviceman had passed away in an SAF bungalow overseas. Both father and son were on holiday together. Mr Conceicao immediately got in touch with the serviceman.

“Knowing the depressed state he was likely to be in, I wanted to try to calm him down and offer him whatever help I could,” he said.

Mr Conceicao expressed his condolences and asked the serviceman if he needed help relaying the news to his relatives or unit in Singapore.

Finally, Mr Conceicao asked his boss for permission to send a wreath to the wake and to refund the charges for the bungalow stay. Both requests were granted.

Receiving the MINDEF Star Service Award, says Mr Conceicao , has built up his confidence in his ability to handle customers and has inspired him to aim for even higher heights of customer satisfaction.

Mr Conceicao also won the D’eXecutive Services Star Service Award in April 2005.
