Service star: Sarjit Kaur

One incident made it clear that 1st Warrant Officer (1WO) Sarjit Kaur is a service star: As former brigade chief administrative supervisor of HQ 22 SIB, 1WO Kaur was responsible for ensuring that National Servicemen (NSmen) turn up for in-camp training. When an NSman called to tell her that he could not go for his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) because there was no one to care for his bedridden mother, her response was immediate: “I told him that if that was the problem, I wouldn’t mind helping him out because his home was not too far from mine.” And so 1WO Kaur looked after his mother for a few hours while he took his IPPT.

The above incident was only one of many examples of how 1WO Kaur goes beyond the call of duty. For instance, she visits the homes of NSmen who fail to turn up for in-camp training to better understand their home situations.

She knows all the NSmen under her charge by name. And she is the driver of the WITS programme in her award-winning unit.

Her outstanding qualities have not only earned her the awe of her supervisor, COL Jordon Woo, they are keeping him on his toes! He said: “She is someone that the brigade cannot do without. Not only is she a very good coach, she goes out of her way to help servicemen whenever they need a sympathetic ear.

“Her service excellence has changed the way I work because I feel I have to keep constantly on my toes to continue to earn her respect.”
