Agroup of 14 companies from the building and construction
sector
are hoping to build a name for themselves and for
Singapore in the Middle East.
On 9 May 2005, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding
for
the formation of the Singapore Building and Infrastructure
Consortium (SBIC) to jointly pursue building and
infrastructure projects in the lucrative market.
“By forming this consortium, we are able to
combine our capabilities and services to meet the
massive market demands in the Middle East,”
said Mr Francis Lee, CEO of DP Architect, one of
the three companies leading the alliance.
SBIC is the result of a business mission to Qatar
and Kuwait led by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong
in April 2005. It is one of the biggest consortiums
formed under International Enterprise (IE) Singapore’s
International Partners (iPartners) Programme. It
is also the first alliance to specially target projects
in the Middle East.
“The formation of SBIC in a record two weeks
shows the enthusiasm and need of the consortium
members to join forces,” added Mr Lee.
“This enthusiasm is an endorsement of IE’s
iPartners Programme, which has certainly catalysed
this joint initiative. Without iPartners, this joint
initiative would be very difficult, if not impossible.”
SBIC brings together leading architects, cost engineers,
specialist consultants, engineers, builders and
suppliers in Singapore. It represents the complete
value chain for the building and construction industry
— masterplanning, engineering, consultancy,
construction and procurement. |
