| Financing expanding operations in Cambodia |
| |
Did you know that Cambodia
is a production hotspot for international brands
like GAP, Levi’s, Old Navy, Banana Republic,
Union Bay, Nautica, Lee Cooper, Dockers and Polo
Ralph Lauren?
More and more global textile and garment companies
are finding Cambodia an attractive manufacturing
base and sourcing hub due to its large, cheap workforce
as well as its favourable trade conditions.
Even Singapore-based companies are trying to gain
a foothold in this emerging market.
One example is Singapore company SL International
Holdings Pte Ltd (SLI). It set up an overseas subsidiary,
SL Garment Processing (Cambodia) Co Ltd, to provide
garment processing services for garment manufacturers
in Cambodia.
Garment processing is vital to the garment manufacturing
process because it enhances the appearance of garments
and differentiates products in the market.
In fact, its garment processing services were so
popular that SL Cambodia soon found it needed to
expand its production capacity to meet growing demands.
Through Singapore-based SLI subsidiary Sut Lick
Trading (S) Pte Ltd, it obtained a loan under International
Enterprise (IE) Singapore’s Regionalisation
Finance Scheme to fund the acquisition of machinery
worth over S$3 million.
Pleased with the financial support from IE Singapore,
founder of SL Cambodia Raymond Wong said: “With
the additional production capacity, SL Cambodia
will be able to meet the increasing orders from
its customers and expects to expand its business
as well as increase its revenue in the near future.” |
