out for IE staff |

| Getting
all sporty is part of a day’s
work for staff at IE Singapore. |

All work and no play can make Jack and Jill
rather dull and drained. Thankfully, that’s
not the case in International Enterprise (IE) Singapore.
When not buried deep in work, the Jacks and Jills
here are running marathons, getting sweaty on soccer
fields and returning swift smashes at table tennis
matches.
In IE’s latest spin of the phrase “sweating
it out at work”, the organisation saw an overwhelming
number of staff supporting the JPMorgan Chase Corporate
Challenge Series held downtown. Into its 29th year
and held for the second year in Singapore, the global
event celebrated corporate fitness and camaraderie.
Close to 100 IE staff came together on 27 April
to take on the 5.6-kilometre run, trading in their
office attire for in-house designed, vibrant-coloured
running gear.
The number of IE participants in this year’s
run more than doubled from last year, signalling
that the work-sports message was healthy and alive
in the organisation.
Said CEO of IE Singapore Lee Yi Shyan: “IE
believes strongly in promoting overall corporate
fitness to achieve strong hearts and sharp minds.
The response to this year’s JPMorgan run was
overwhelming, with staff in the nearly 100-strong
team coming from various divisions and departments.
That number is actually one-third of IE’s
headcount in Singapore!”
The JPMorgan run in April and Standard Chartered
Marathon in December are two running events IE staff
participate in every year.
Last year, 31 runners from IE took on the 10-kilometre
Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon with the aim
to stretch their mental and physical endurance.
IE also organises monthly inter-divisional sports
events and game competitions to encourage mass participation.
Each month is dedicated to a specific game held
in-house at the Recreation Club.
The latest was a carrom competition held in early
June which drew good response. The games lined up
for the coming months include soccer, archery, captain’s
ball, pool and bowling.
All these efforts to keep fit have paid off in more
than one way for IE. In 2004, the organisation received
the National Health Award (Silver) from the Health
Promotion Board and The Sporting Singapore Inspiration
Award from the Singapore Sports Council.
“These achievements have been made possible
with the concerted efforts, passion and commitment
of each and every staff at IE. Many of our staff
took small but consistent steps toward physical
fitness. These small steps have now led to larger
and healthier habits of fitness-building within
the workplace. Before long, an active and balanced
lifestyle will become a way of life in IE,”
said Mr Lee. |
