Do more with one kiosk

With the one-stop kiosk, you can pay for library charges, check your records and top up your CashCard, without having to queue at multiple stations.

Previously, the kiosks deployed in the library were individual stations for specific services such as the Borrower Enquiry Station, Membership Registration Kiosk and the Multimedia Prepayment Top-up stations.

Today, the new Library e-Kiosk, a self-service station, enables library users to perform various transactions, such as paying for outstanding library charges and fines, checking their records and topping up their CashCards, without having to queue at multiple stations.

The Library e-Kiosk replaces the above individual stations and provides greater flexibility for libraries to decide on the type of services to be offered at anytime, based on operational needs.

Piloted at Jurong Regional Library in 2004, the kiosk has since been introduced at the Bukit Merah Community Library and the Tampines Regional Library.

The New National Library at Victoria Street will have 18 units. There are plans to roll it out in other Community and Regional Libraries thereafter.

Customer feedback has been positive so far. Users were pleased with the variety of payment modes available — NETS, CashCard, Pre-Paid Account and Ez-link card.

Customers were also won over by the intuitive interface, ease of use and ergonomic touch screens. And the consistent customer interface and experience contribute to easier navigation.

Service delivery is also faster. For example, it takes five minutes for someone to register with the library at the kiosk as compared to 15 minutes over the counter.

The kiosk also increases staff productivity, reduces operational cost, optimises the National Library Board’s (NLB) IT resources and offers new services to customers with minimal delay.

NLB has plans to enhance the kiosks by adding more services such as the following:
Programme registration and event booking: users will be able to search for an event/programme organised by the library and make reservations
Library Layout: users will be able to easily locate items on an online map that shows both their current and desired destinations
Cybrarian Guide: users will be able to seek the librarian’s assistance via a handset
OPAC: the library book catalogue will be made available
e-Survey: the library will be able to conduct short customer surveys
Library FAQ: users will be able to browse common questions on library services
Mobile Device Support and Download: members will be able to download selective library content to their mobile devices
