Work-life balance sheet: What’s your score?

-
Buzzword of the day: work-life balance. It’s something of national importance. Even Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is talking about it. And if your mind is swimming through the tons of work you have to do this weekend while you’re reading this, chances are, you’re teetering on the verge of an unbalanced work-life. Take the following test to find out how you fare in balancing family and work life. And read the story Five helpful tips to keep your balance to find out how you can achieve a
balanced life.

1) I’m satisfied with the time I spend at work.
2) When I leave work, I generally feel that I have completed all that I needed to do for the day.
3) My weekends are enjoyable and free from work concerns.
4) I’m satisfied with the amount of time I spend with my family (spouse/children/parents/siblings).
5) I’m satisfied with the relationships and friendships I have at work.
6) I have sufficient time to spend with friends.
7) I’m satisfied with the amount of time I have for hobbies and
personal interests.
8) I’m satisfied with the amount of time I have for exercise.
9) I have time to fulfil my family/personal responsibilities on a
daily basis.
10) I feel that I have time to relax and enjoy life.
11) I’m satisfied with my progress in meeting personal goals in my life.
12) I feel satisfied with the amount of control I have over my
work-life balance.
If your answers to the questions above are mostly “Yes”, congratulations! You have achieved a healthy work-life balance. Though you have found the balance, it’s still
important to constantly check your work–life situation to
ensure you maintain balance.

If you answered “No” to most of the questions above, the demands of your work seem to be dominating your life. You need to identify the causes and take immediate action to address this imbalance.
