| Working,
studying in SP |

Perhaps the best way
to learn about an organisation is to find out what
its people think about it.
At Singapore Polytechnic (SP), many of its staff
enjoy a sense of fulfilment at work.
Said Dr Liew Oi Wah, Deputy Principal (Academic)’s
Office, Technology Centre for Life Sciences, “I
have participated in training programmes held locally
and overseas, which have built my skills in teaching,
service to community, research and even in technology
business intelligence.
“I look forward to going to work each day
and feel a deep sense of satisfaction knowing that
my contributions, however small, are valued and
makes a difference.”
Staff at SP also appreciate the many initiatives
for sharing and forging a collaborative corporate
culture. Online staff forums, a knowledge repository,
an annual convention for academic staff to share
their teaching experiences, and the Interactive
Learning Technology Network, are just some of them.
“We believe strongly in teamwork and esprit
de corps,” said Mr John Foo Kok Soon, Section
Head, School of Business. “Lecturers are willing
to share their knowledge, lead and mentor their
peers and colleagues. There are also collaborations
across courses which have benefited both staff and
students.”
The students have much to add about life at SP too.
Said Tan Wenqi, “At SP, you get to enjoy a
rich and very active lifestyle. On the campus, you
can easily find a plethora of activities. It’s
never just about studies! Besides hitting the books,
you can participate in many activities. Through
them, I am discovering my true potential.”
Another student, Suhana Suhaimi, said, “The
high-tech and new facilities make learning more
interesting than ever. Integrating technology into
the way we learn not only stimulates our creativity,
but also adds more buzz to life as a student here.” |
