Applause for our service stars

RADM Teo praised the POWER and STAR Service Award winners.

In recognition of their service excellence, 69 public officers were honoured at the Public Service STAR Service Award ceremony.

Themed “Celebrating the Stars”, the event was held at the Housing and Development Board Hub Convention Centre on 6 July 2004.

Defence Minister RADM (NS) Teo Chee Hean was the guest of honour. In his speech, he said: “The 69 winners of the national STAR Service Award today have been chosen from over 120,000 public service officers, as exemplars of service excellence and dedication to their profession. Demonstrating consistently high standards in service delivery, the winners are truly deserving of this award.”

The event was also graced by Head of Civil Service, Mr Lim Siong Guan.

Into its second year, the STAR Service Award encourages quality customer service by identifying role models who display exemplary service delivery.

The award ceremony also saw the launch of the Public Service identity tagline: “The Singapore Public Service: Integrity, Service, Excellence”.

The tagline formalises “integrity”, “service” and “excellence” as the three attributes that form the core identity of all public officers in Singapore. It serves to remind all public officers to continually exemplify these attributes in their daily work.

In addition to the STAR Service Award, the POWER (Public Officers Working on Eliminating Red-tape) Award was also presented to three ministries — Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Finance — for their responsiveness to public feedback and proactive approaches to reviewing their rules.

“The POWER and STAR Service Award winners certainly embody the qualities expressed in the identity tagline,” said RADM Teo.

“Their willingness to listen, ability to think out of the box, and going the extra mile are all manifestations of the highest standard of integrity, strong dedication to service and commitment to excellence.”
