MOM staff in action

Each Heart Bus carries 2,000 signatures.

To encourage staff from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and their
family members to embrace a healthy lifestyle, MOM’s Staff Welfare Recreation Committee organised a mass run on 6 December 2003. The event was held in conjunction with the launch of the MOM/ CPF Board’s “Heart Bus”.

That Saturday morning, participants from MOM and the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board gathered excitedly at the Marina
City Park.

At 8.30 am, Acting Minister for Manpower, Dr Ng Eng Hen, launched the Heart Bus. He then led the participants to the Waterfront Theatre Terrace for a round of warm-up exercises before embarking on the run.

The participants had a choice of two routes. Those who took the longer route could find stars hung on trees along the way which could be exchanged for prizes. Those who preferred a more leisurely stroll could take the shorter route. While the run was in progress, the children had fun participating in a drawing competition.

After the run, the participants were treated to scrumptious refreshments and entertaining programmes like tai chi and line dance performances, stage games and a lucky draw. Each participant was also given a
goodie pack.

Everyone was glad to make a difference to the less fortunate.

Everyone had a great time. As the turnout was most encouraging, rumour has it that MOM is considering a full MOM marathon next year!

HEART BUS
The Heart Bus was initiated by SBS Transit in support of the annual President’s Challenge, which aims to increase awareness of how the community can help the less fortunate and to raise funds for the social service sector. For a donation, donors can sign their name on a heart which will be put on a wholly-painted double-decker bus. Each Heart Bus carries the signatures of 2,000 donors.
