| Thirty
female Ministry of Law (MinLaw) officers attended
the
first-ever
healthy cooking demonstration organised during
lunchtime on 18 June 2003. The programme was part
of MinLaw’s Workplace Health Promotion Programme. With
the bevy of talents in MinLaw, we did not have
to engage any
external chefs. Resident cooking enthusiast,
Irene from MinLaw’s Headquarters,
along with her assistant Preetha, whipped up a feast in less than 30 minutes!
Using a microwave oven, Irene cooked fried bee hoon and ma-poh tofu. The main
ingredients were vegetables, which are essential sources of vitamins, minerals
and fibre; protein-rich tofu; and chicken breast meat, which has less fats.
Very little oil was used in preparing the two dishes.
Preetha demonstrated how to prepare fuss-free, delicious and healthy autumn
fruit salad using an array of fruits, lemon juice, honey and low-fat vanilla
yoghurt.
At the end of the cooking demonstration, the food was dished out for the audience
to sample. Everyone was pleasantly surprised with the delectable taste.
They also appreciated that the dishes could be prepared with ease. Although
most of them have a microwave oven, few knew that fried bee hoon and ma-poh tofu could be easily cooked using the appliance.
Some attendees later shared with the organisers about their attempts with the
recipes. Said Florence Kim, a mother of a teenager, “My family said that
the food was delicious and asked for a second helping. I am so happy I don’t
have to slave away in the kitchen for two hours just to prepare a simple meal!” |
