Taxi industry goes all out to keep SARS at bay

In their battle against SARS, taxi companies and taxi operators’ associations quickly came together to form the Taxi Industry Task Force. The Task Force introduced many commendable initiatives.

One effective health measure was setting up daily temperature check stations to ensure that drivers are fever-free. This was one of the first instances of mass temperature screening.

The Task Force also put together a SARS Battle Kit, which was distributed to all taxi drivers. With the kit, taxi drivers could take their own temperature before they started their shifts.

In conjunction with the Singapore Contact Bowl campaign, the Task Force launched the “Hop In & Win Cash” initiative. The initiative provides a speedy contact tracing system through the use of the Short Message Service (SMS). It also promotes the use of taxi services as a series of lucky draws running from 3 June to 14 September will reward passengers with some $130,000 in cash!
