Why
is Deepavali also known as the Festival of Lights?
What are the differences
between “Aidilfitri” (Hari Raya Puasa)
and “Aidiladha” (Hari Raya Haji festivities
celebrated by Muslims)? Why do Eurasians take their
wedding photos after the wedding ceremony? Why
do the Chinese celebrate the Dumpling Festival?
Read on to find out how the Civil Service College
can shed some light on these questions.

Singapore
is a country of varied ethnicities, races and religions.
Though we may not fully understand the traditions
and practices of all the racial and religious groups,
we will probably have wondered about their significance
at some point
in time.
Maintaining harmonious communities in a diverse society like Singapore requires
ongoing efforts by individuals and organisations to promote mutual understanding
and appreciation. Within workplaces, diverse teams can achieve synergy if they
build collective understanding, trust and engagement.
The Civil Service College is organising a two-day workshop entitled “Building
Communities: Harmony in Diversity”. Public officers will gain a better
understanding of different cultures, perceptions and assumptions, so that they
can engage citizens with enhanced sensitivity. The workshop also supports organisations’ efforts
to strengthen social cohesion among employees.
So sign up for this engaging, experiential and fun programme and discover surprising
and special facts about the ethnic and religious groups you belong to and the
people you work with.
