Over
the last 20 years, Singapore’s public sector
has evolved from using info-communications technology
(ICT) merely
as a productivity tool to leveraging it to deliver
integrated 24x7 services to our
citizens and businesses. Since the
launch of the e-Government Action Plan in June 2000, we have made good progress.
Today, Singapore has one of the most advanced e-governments in the world, with
a wide array of government services now available online. Accenture and the World
Economic Forum ranked Singapore among the top three e-governments in the world.
We ranked second for the fourth consecutive year in Accenture’s fourth
annual e-government leadership survey of 22 countries offering e-government services.
The e-Government Action Plan II, which will guide the ICT investment of the entire
public sector from FY2003 to FY2005, seeks to capitalise on the strong foundation
established by the first plan, and also incorporate new strategies to adapt to
the changing global environment.
Public officers can learn about the e-Government Action Plan II at the upcoming
PS21 Managing For Excellence (MFE) 2003 Forum on e-Government, an annual forum
organised by the Government Chief Information Office, Infocomm Development Authority
and Ministry of Finance.
The forum aims to reinforce the Government’s commitment to being a leading
e-government in the digital economy. In line with the new action plan, the theme
of this year’s forum will be “e-Government: Delighting Customers
and Connecting Citizens”.
Apart from the opportunity to learn about the vision and strategic priorities
of the new plan, public officers will bene-fit from an experience sharing session
and also learn about worldwide e-government trends in an exclusive session with
Mr Andrea Di Maio, Research Director of Gartner
Research.
