Faster allocation of industrial premises

At www.place2lease.com, visitors can go on a virtual tour of new developments such as this one.

With the success of its e-bidding website for industrial premises, the Housing and Development Board’s Industrial Properties Department (IPD) has taken steps to further enhance customer service - this time by speeding up the process of allocating industrial units

At www.place2lease.com, interested takers of industrial units can access useful information such as technical specifications, location maps, photographs and floor plans to make an informed choice. They can even take a virtual tour of two new developments in Ang Mo Kio and Yishun.

Not surprisingly, usage has risen steadily as industrialists are happy with the hassle-free way of bidding for units. To date, over 700 units have been allocated through the site.

In an effort to further improve customer service, IPD decided to shorten the e-bidding period from one week to three days. Another pro-business move it took recently was to increase the number of e-bidding cycles from one to three a month. This way, industrialists who miss a bidding exercise can quickly participate in the next cycle.

The results speak for themselves: In the past three months, there was a surge in the number of allocations.

Mr Lawrence Neo, a partner of Eking Paul Services, was one of the delighted customers. He said, “I missed an e-bidding cycle and learnt from the HDB counter staff that there was going to be another cycle in a week’s time. I managed to get the unit I wanted. It was the first time I used the online system and I’m very happy with the results. Rest assured that I will use it again.”

Said Mr Sng Cheng Keh, Head of IPD, “The shorter run and more frequent cycles help customers like Mr Neo to avoid unnecessary lead times and missed opportunities.”

The IPD will continue its relentless efforts to identify customers’ needs and deliver improved e-services to them.
