In
January 2003, the Monetary Authority of Singapore
(MAS) conducted an IT Security Awareness Programme
for all 820 of their staff.
The enterprise-wide initiative was supported by the Infocomm Education Programme
(IEP) for the public sector, a joint initiative by the Infocomm Development Authority
and Ministry of Finance which aims to equip public officers with infocomm knowledge
and skills.
Response from the staff was good. One staff said, “The course helped me
to be more aware of the requirements of MAS’ IT security policy, and to
know how to handle classified documents and information.”
Another said, “The course taught me to identify common hoax mails we receive
through the Internet, and not to forward junk mails, which can jam up the network.”
As the initiative was supported by the IEP, MAS received a grant for organising
the programme.
Those who wish to enhance infocomm security in their organisations can approach
the Infocomm Education Office for assistance (send your email to kuda_vidanage@ida.gov.sg)
or enrol their officers in the one-day Infocomm Security Awareness Course. |
