The
Defence Administration Group (DAG) of the Ministry
of Defence (MINDEF) has launched a framework called “D’eXecutive” to
transform itself into a highly focused and cohesive
organisation by leveraging on systems and
technology. This is part of an ongoing effort by MINDEF to reinvent itself as
a “New Economy Organisation”.
Enhance skills and competencies
The New Partnership Scheme, which comes under the framework of D’eXecutive,
provides opportunities for Defence Executive Officers to acquire lifelong skills
and competencies that enhance employability. The challenge is for DAG to continually
re-examine its fundamentals and operating paradigms. Programmes organised under
D’eXecutive serve to improve work processes and systems, and to minimise
the “silos mentality” within the organisation.
Focus on the family
Also central to D’eXecutive is the importance of the family. Deliverables
under the D’eXecutive Family Friendly Scheme include a family life resource
website, a lactation room in Defence Tower B, and a competition to find the most
family-oriented DAG department.
DAG has also signed up for the Ministry of Community Development and Sports’ (MCDS)
Family Life Ambassador Programme. Twenty-one DAG volunteers identified the family
life needs within DAG and explored possibilities for a long-term working partnership
with MCDS. Plans are underway to shape values, attitudes and life choices to
promote a pro-family culture. The volunteers’ efforts were honoured at
the DAG Family Friendly Seminar held in August 2002.
Said Mr Lim Hup Seng, Deputy Secretary (Administration), MINDEF, who officiated
at the seminar, “A happy staff is a productive staff. We work to provide
for our family. Therefore, family is an important factor in the total make-up
of the worker.”
