iCube
is fun, informative and interactive!” That
is what you will hear these days at the Ministry
of Trade and Industry (MTI).
Launched by MTI’s Permanent Secretary Heng Swee Keat, the monthly iCube
sessions are the ideal platform for learning and greater staff interaction.
“These sessions provide a good opportunity for staff to get together to
relax,
share and interact,” said Ms Wendy Goh, a new member of the MTI family.
Excellent for training
Besides the fun element, iCube is informative - it gives MTI staff a chance
to acquire a diversified scope of knowledge.
Said Ms Helen Lim, Director of Corporate Development, “There is also much
to gain, especially so in terms of training, as such sessions provide opportunities
for staff to learn.”
iCube serves as an effective training platform for employees. The training is
divided into three components: that which is relevant to the employees’ job
domain, training on generic topics, and training for personal growth and development.
As such, training has taken on a new dimension at MTI.
“These sessions have become particularly useful as we are now able to weave
some
meaning into training,” said Deputy Finance Manager Adrian Goh. “This
is so when learning takes place in such a cozy environment conducive for learning.”
Great for bringing people together
Staff
from various divisions conduct the iCube sessions,
which are a good opportunity to inform the rest
of the ministry about exciting projects such as
the Asian Business Fellowship programme and Ideas
@ Work. The Economics and Trade divisions have
also delivered presentations on the economic situation
in Singapore and
free trade agreements respectively.

However,
iCube is not just about training. Head of Organisational
Change Management
Adrian Tan said, “iCube is about greater staff interaction, and what better
time and place for senior management to foster better employee relations than
at these learning
sessions.”
Ultimately, MTI hopes to boost staff morale as well as harness the creativity
of its staff through the informal iCube sessions. |
