Why the Thinkathon?

Mr Tan evaluating the ideas proposed by SPF officers.

There are many advantages of organising a Thinkathon vis-à-vis applying “traditional” brainstorming techniques. The major advantages are:

100% participation - Everyone has to submit the worksheets, which feature a broad range of questions/issues to cater to the varied interests of participants. Comparatively, a “traditional” brainstorming session may be dominated by some while a few choose to remain silent.
More quality ideas - The Thinkathon method allows participants to exchange and build on each other’s ideas to generate even more quality ideas. This also helps to minimise the duplication of ideas. From experience, duplication only occurs in approximately 15% of the ideas generated.
Wider variety of ideas - This can easily be achieved by framing and cate-gorising the questions/challenges to gather a broad range of responses.
Saves time - Time is saved as participants generate ideas simultaneously.
Easier documentation - The participants record their ideas on worksheets.

The Thinkathon is an effective way to garner many ideas in a short span of time.
