Maintaining
a healthy lifestyle is a way of life at the Ministry
of Community Development and Sports (MCDS). Its
Healthy Lifestyle Committee is very active in arranging
talks on a wide variety of topics ranging from aromatherapy
to cancer-causing chemicals, organising events such
as the Inter-Group Sports Tournament, as well as
garnering staff participation for numerous charity
walks and other sporting events. In addition, divisions
are given one hour a week or four hours a month
to hold their own healthy lifestyle activities.
Healthy
Lifestyle Month activities
As part of its Healthy Lifestyle Month in September,
the Healthy Lifestyle Committee organised A.C.T.I.V.E.
(All Companies Together in Various Exercises) Day
activities, a talk on stress management and an outing
to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
Over 200 people participated in the A.C.T.I.V.E.
Day programme held at the Toa Payoh Sports Complex
on 7 September 2002. It was heartening to see staff
bringing their families to participate in the 2-kilometre
walk.
In the same month, more than 60 people benefited
from the stress management talk, and about 100 staff
members and their families enjoyed a day of trekking
and bird-watching at Sungei Buloh.
Year-long sports tournament
The Inter-Group Sports Tournament was an exciting
competition spread over the entire year of 2002.
Divisions were divided into four groups to compete
in tennis and badminton matches. The tournament
culminated in an entertaining telematch on 15 October.
Not only did the tournament help in teambuilding,
it also served the organisers well as it provided
an excellent opportunity for talent spotting athletes
to represent MCDS in external sporting events.
