Structure: Blueprint for innovation |
| |
In
setting up the Innoventure infrastructure, officers
were appointed in all SCDF departments and ground
units to keep a constant lookout for creative expressions
and ideas. These officers, known as Innoventurers,
report directly to the SCDF Chief Innovation Officer
(CIO) upon stumbling on any ideas or suggestions.
This effectively bypasses several administrative
layers and champions the key premise that no idea
is too small to be noticed.
As the SCDF management recognises the importance
of supporting the innovation drive, the role of
the SCDF PS21 Main Committee has been expanded to
cover the approval of project proposals by the CIO.
The Committee can also recommend that selected projects
be jointly undertaken with other agencies, or be
submitted to higher levels such as the Ministry
of Home Affairs (MHA) or The Enterprise Challenge
(TEC).
The InnoventureFUND was created to provide financial
support for low-risk experimentation of deserving
projects. Funds are allocated to each unit. The
amount given to trial test each project is determined
by the Unit Commander based on prescribed guidelines.
If the project is successful or shows potential,
it may go on to receive funding from the Force,
or even from MHA or TEC.
Furthermore, outstanding projects that lead to solutions
which improve customer service are recognised through
the SCDF Innoventure Award Scheme. The awards for
WITs and staff suggestions also come under this
scheme. SCDF hopes to encourage staff to contribute
ideas and inspire them to greater heights. |
