Dining in a lush park or in a balmy alfresco setting by the sea can be one of the most relaxing experiences in Singapore. Here are some eateries that not only offer crowd-pleasing food, but also boast lovely ambience.

Sakura International Buffet Restaurant

Located at the lush Clementi Woods Park, Sakura (halal-certified restaurant) features international cuisine that includes as many as 100 varieties of Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes.

To kick off your meal, munch on appetisers such as scallops, lobster salad, mussels and cold prawn. The mains consist of an assortment of dim sum, teppanyaki (including lamb chop, salmon and beef), tempura and grilled unagi.

Freshness is guaranteed as the sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki are freshly rustled up on the spot by the chefs. Diners can enjoy about eight different types of fresh sashimi such as salmon, amaebi, octopus and tuna. For your sweet finale, tuck into cheesecakes, durian puffs, ice creams and more. The buffet lunch is priced at $20+ on weekdays and $22+ on weekends, while the buffet dinner is priced at $24+ on Mondays to Thurdays, and $26+ on Fridays and weekends.


Taman Serasi Food Garden

The new Taman Serasi Food Garden (near the main gate) is a great place to tuck into local delights, especially after a day out in the Botanic Gardens. You will have to walk pass soothing water features and pretty frangipani trees before reaching this basement food court.

Taman SerasiThere is an array of stalls here, including Thohirah Restaurant's Jalan Kayu Prata House - which is its first outlet outside the famous Jalan Kayu enclave.

Apart from the usual prata with egg or cheese, the chicken murtabak ($5) served with a piquant curry dip is lip-smacking and is ideal for two. Worth ordering too is the seafood combo murtabak ($6) brimming with prawns and sotong - it is almost like tucking into a hearty seafood pizza. The stall also serves curry fish head ($15 or $20) and biryani with chicken, fish, or mutton curry ($3-$4).

Over at the Indonesian BBQ stall, diners can savour flavourful authentic fare prepared by Indonesian cooks. The juicy ayam panggang or grilled chicken is smothered with a thick, boldly flavoured sauce, and the set ($4) comes with steamed rice, an omelette and a dollop of spicy sambal.

If you like roast delicacies, try the roast meat with rice ($3.50) or char siew wonton noodles ($3). Recommended too is the Yummy Crab stall which offers several versions of crab dishes, from black pepper and spicy sambal chilli, to rich cream cheese.

Diners at East Coast Parkway's Fisherman's Village can choose to sit indoors or at the balmy alfresco area surrounded by shady trees. This bright and spacious restaurant located just by the sea serves decent home-style dishes and a huge selection of live seafood (seasonal price). You can decide which cooking style you prefer too. For instance, if you order geoduck or bamboo clams - you can request to have them steamed with garlic paste, black bean sauce or spicy sambal paste. For the lobster, you can have it sashimi-style or baked with cheese or butter and cream.

Available too are various crabs from mud crab, snow crab and Alaskan crab to the popular Sri Lankan crab - served with the restaurant's famous black pepper sauce or special chilli sauce. For something luxurious, go for the braised shark's fin with crabmeat ($48). Other dishes worth trying include the succulent stir-fried beef, redolent with shredded ginger ($12) and braised silky bean curd with prawns and dried scallops ($18), which goes well with steamed rice.

Midsummer Nite BreezeFancy dining under the stars by the beach? You can do just that at Pasir Ris Park's Midsummer Nite Breeze. The menu features a good variety of western and local dishes, plus some fusion creations. Zero in on popular dishes like the Summer Breeze Pan-fried Fish ($15). The dory fillet topped with a delicious mayonnaise garlic butter sauce is partnered with a good portion of al dente spaghetti and seasonal greens. You also can't go wrong with classic fish and chips ($12.50).

For local fare, the sambal fried rice with deep-fried chicken wing and ikan billis ($8.80) is highly recommended by the owners. The dish is spicy so do let the waiters know if you prefer it to be toned down.


Villa Seafood Galleria

Chilli Crab Imagine dining at the edge of a cliff while soaking in the stunning sea view. Villa Seafood Galleria, an elegant modern Chinese restaurant offers you this and a whole lot more. Helming the kitchen is Chef Jin Tian Tian who previously worked in several renowned restaurants in Singapore, and was formerly the coaching chef at the Restaurant Association of Singapore.

The restaurant features an extensive menu including various fresh seafood dishes. Dive into braised abalone with oyster sauce ($58), steamed prawns with herbal wine ($8 per 100 g), deep-fried prawns with green apple sauce ($24), pan-fried scallops with XO sauce ($28) and many others. If you need your dose of carbs, order the braised home-made noodles with fish and prawns ($18) or fresh crabmeat fried rice with dried scallops ($20).

Besides the a la carte menu, there are also a selection of set menus for four, six or 10 persons, priced from $188++ to $688++.
