Whoever
said that hospital food is bland should eat their words.
That is, if the medical staff of Changi General Hospital
(CGH) and the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Polyclinics
are the ones cooking! Two groups of multi-talented healthcare
professionals combine the expertise from their day jobs
with their culinary talents to cook up these two recipe
books.
Put together by a team of nurses from NHG Polyclinics,
this recipe book was dreamt up to help patients
and Singaporeans alike eat more healthily. In particular,
these recipes were designed with diabetic patients
in mind.
Organised into nine daily meal plans that list the
full day’s recipes and snacks (and thus ideal
for the lazy or busy cook), the tasty multi-ethnic
recipes featured show that taste need not be compromised
for health reasons.
The book is selling at $8 at all NHG Polyclinics
and the pharmacies
at National University Hospital, Alexandra Hospital
and Tan Tock
Seng Hospital.

Who knows better about multi-tasking than the doctors
and nurses in a busy hospital? And multi-tasking
is exactly what Sensational Confessions
— a collaboration between Makansutra and CGH
— does.
Designed to look like someone’s personal diary,
Sensational Confessions comprises
36 original recipes prepared by CGH’s
Dietetic & Catering Team, interspersed with
recommendations of good eating places and heartfelt,
inspirational stories provided by 18 staff, patients
and friends of the hospital.
The recipes come with nutritional analyses and “eat
smart” tips. I know I can’t wait to
try out the Raspberry Yoghurt Cheesecake and Thai
Belachan Olive Rice!
The book is available for $32 at all major bookstores.
