Chill out at East Coast chalets

-
East Coast Resort has 73 duplex chalets and 124 premier chalets, a swimming pool, barbecue pits and conference rooms.
-
Those who enjoy renting chalets at East Coast will be glad to know that they can do so at the East Coast Resort, formerly known as the Costa Sands Resort (East Coast).

The former resort, which was owned by Resort Concept Pte Ltd, was returned to the State when its 30-year lease expired on 11 January 2006. It reopened on 19 January as East Coast Resort after the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) took over the management of the site.

SLA decided to reopen the resort to the public until December this year while the tender of the site is being prepared and evaluated.

Up for tender
The site occupied by the East Coast Resort will be put up for tender in the first half of 2006. The site will be tendered for use as holiday chalets and food and beverages outlets.

Other proposed uses for the site include a sports and recreational centre, corporate retreat venue, campsite, adventure camps, martial arts/judo/
fencing school, and beauty, health and fitness centre (excluding massage parlour).

The tenancy period is 3+3+2 years up to 2015.

Response to public demand
“Many Singaporeans remember the family and friend get-togethers, the barbecues, the short getaway and the walk along the beach during their stay at the East Coast chalets. The re-opening of the resort during this interim period is therefore to meet the public’s demand for holiday chalets at the East Coast Park,” said an SLA spokesperson.

A member of the public who rented a chalet during the March school holidays is 19-year-old Gunaraaj. Out to relax and have some fun with friends, he said: “We’re having a gathering this evening. There’ll be about 20 of us and we’re going to have a barbecue. We’re glad this resort is still in operation.”

Chalets and amenities
SLA appointed United PREMAS Limited as its managing agent to oversee the management and operation of the resort which consists of 197 chalets — 73 duplex units and 124 premier units.

Besides air-conditioned chalets, the resort also has amenities such as a swimming pool, barbecue pits and conference rooms.
