Apart from Teachers’ Day and the school
holidays, don’t forget that National Healthy
Lifestyle month also takes place in the month of
September!
National Healthy Lifestyle month is a time when
companies are encouraged to organise healthy lifestyle
programmes for their staff such as health talks
and workshops and A.C.T.I.V.E. (All Companies or
Communities Together In Various Exercises) Day.
It is also a time when individuals are encouraged
to participate in healthy activities at their workplace
or in their community.
The Ministry of Health and the Health Promotion
Board (HPB) actively promote awareness of the importance
of a healthy lifestyle and encourage Singaporeans
to adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
Last year, Sentosa’s Tanjong Beach was morphed
into a carnival. A spirited crowd of 12,000 participated
in the launch of the National Healthy Lifestyle
Campaign.
Participants sweated it out in an early morning
workout with celebrity DJs Glenn Ong and Jamie Yeo.
Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong was the guest
of honour.
A Guinness World Record was also set for the greatest
number of health checks (3,594) conducted at a one-day
health event.
This year’s National Healthy Lifestyle Campaign
is targeted at
both employers and employees. The theme is “Healthy
Worklife,
Healthy Living”.
Organisations are encouraged to create healthy work
environments and actively promote health promotion
programmes and services for their employees.
This year’s launch event will take place at
5 pm on Friday, 9 September 2005 at Raffles Avenue
(in front of Southern Plaza, Marina Square). Companies
are encouraged to release their staff at 4 pm to
attend
the launch.
Some 20,000 participants from all workplaces are
expected to take part in the launch. PM Lee will
grace the event as the guest of honour.
In conjunction with the launch, a three-day Health
and Fitness Expo will be held from 9 to 11 September
at Suntec City.
Two fun-filled activities (see sidebar) will be
conducted for the first time during this period.
There will also be a host of exciting health and
fitness products and activities such as free health/fitness
screening, cooking demonstrations, and demonstrations
of various sports by the National Sports Associations.
So keep a look out in the newspapers and magazines
for more details on the upcoming National Healthy
Lifestyle Campaign and how to participate in the
exciting activities! |
